2008 Audi S5 with APR Stage III Supercharger kit, DXD Clutch, Brembo brakes, and more

An Audi S5 is a great car, but everything is better with forced induction! To test that statement on this S5 we installed APR's supercharger kit and we were not dissapointed. To make sure the additional power wouldn't result in a prematurely worn out clutch we installed a DXD clutch disk with a new OE pressure plate. During the supercharger installation we discovered that this engine had a severe carbon build up problem, see the album below for our repair.

Intake Carbon

Once we pulled the intake manifold off we discovered a large amount of carbon deposits in the intake ports. This is a common problem in direct injection engines since there is no fuel in the intake to wash away the deposits as they form. The only way to completely clean these ports is to remove the cylinder heads which is approximately 30 hours of labor that starts with removing the engine from the car. By carefully manually cleaning the ports with solvents and dentistry tools we remove the vast majority of the buildup.
